Youth and Culture

The relationship between the potential of culture and progress needed in youth policies are now increasingly offering proposals that harness the potential of culture for development and empowerment. The European Union's policy on youth stated in its framework document for European cooperation in the youth field that:

“The creativity of young people and their capacity for innovation should be supported through better quality access and participation in cultural expressions and culture from an early age, thereby promoting personal development, increased learning capabilities, intercultural skills, understanding and respect for cultural diversity and the development of new skills for future job opportunities.”

This belief is the base for the Youth Empowerment through Arts and Culture funding scheme. This reflects an increasingly consolidated effort that values culture as an asset and potential for youth development. Opportunities such as this demonstrate that culture as it relates to development may offer great potential for achieving objectives designed to increase people’s quality of life.
